36th America’s Cup – Day 4 – No wind, no race

Auckland, New Zealand – 3/14/2021 – Weather won the day on the Waitemata Harbour today on the fourth day of the 36th America’s Cup presented by PRADA with the Race Committee forced to call off racing due to the lack of wind.

The scoreboard between Emirates Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and the best-of-13 series is still tied three apiece.

Emirates Team New Zealand helmsman Peter Burling was pragmatic about today’s conditions, “It was certainly light around the top of the course, and even if we did just make the wind limit, it would have been interesting to see if we could have got around the racecourse within the time limit.”

“One thing today did allow, was for our shore and race crew out here on the water to continue to look at every little detail of the boat and come up with ways to make the boat faster. There are definitely lots of little modifications happening all over the place to make this boat go faster. As a team, you have to keep getting better, and we definitely feel we have been improving over the course of these opening races – in terms of technique, equipment or how you are using something – and every little detail makes a big difference.”

Auckland offered a spectacular sight on a day better suited to fishing and swimming for more than 1300 spectator boats gathered once again around Race Course A. The America’s Cup Race Village packed with over 48.000 people, in the end, left to rock out to The Feelers and Zed in the balmy Sunday evening.

The forecast for day number five is promising – ENE 10-15 knots, so teams have to set the re-set button as tomorrow looks set to deliver another tense day for sailors and spectators alike.
